Behavioral research at the DuMond Conservancy

Opportunities are available for college students and recent graduates to join a team that investigates various aspects of the biology of owl monkeys at the DuMond Conservancy.

In preparation for acceptance into this program, students will need to show evidence of vaccinations for COVID-19 and tetanus. A clear TB test (which can be obtained at most local clinics) is also required. Upon receiving these documents, student will need fill out several forms before commencing (student forms).

The DuMond Conservancy is an R registered facility with the Department of Agriculture (USDA). Consequently, any research conducted at the facility must be approved by an Institutional Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Students are required to complete IACUC training, which can be done -free of charge- through Florida International University. There are two modules required- Working with Non-Human Primates in Research Settings and Working with the IACUC. Instructions on how to register can be found at IACUC Training Requirements - Research (fiu.edu).

Once you have been accepted into the program, the next step would be to familiarize yourself with typical owl monkey behavior. This can be done by examining the social behaviors page above.
